LIVE MUSIC.KILLER COFFEE.LOCAL ART

Friday, October 16th, 8 PM – 1 AM  (Free Admission)

2702 Causeway Center Drive

Tampa, FL  33619

If you’re in the greater Tampa Bay Area, it’s worth the trip to attend Canvas 5 – An Art Premier of selected emerging local artists.

Canvas exists to simply promote a community of inspiration.  The idea, the dream, was born to provide a spring board to local up and coming artists, in such a way that would benefit both their craft and their career.  The desire is not to bleed the artists of their funds, it is not to exploit them for sponsorship revenue, but to let them know that there are people who care and want to help.

Canvas is the brain child of Mike DeSerio and Bobby Triplett, both of which are part of the leadership team for Element Church in the Brandon/Tampa area.  Their desire was to hold an event that could reach out to the art community of Tampa Bay – an event that could foster both excellence and creativity and could impact a city through the expressions of inspiration.

Emerging Artist: Elizabeth Duncklee

By leathergallery · August 31, 2009 · 0 Comments · 1,037 Views

Continuing our "Emerging Artist" series, we explore the exquisite artwork of Elizabeth Duncklee.

Elizabeth Duncklee currently lives just outside of Atlanta, GA.  She is a self-taught artist and photographer with a special talent for florals and natural landscapes.  Her artwork is breath-taking with an amazing amount of detail.  Each of Elizabeth's paintings tend to have an aspect of realism to them, but she's been known to add a contemporary twist or touch of surrealism. Landscapes and flowers are her most frequent subjects, however she does offer an abstract from time to time.

If you ask Elizabeth, she will tell you that her inspiration for painting started while she was living in Alaska -- there the artist thought the terrain was such a beautiful masterpiece -- not only did she photograph it, but she captured the beauty of it in oils on canvas. Elizabeth's been painting ever since and has fallen in love with the personal time she puts into each painting.

Well known for perfectly executed commission pieces, Elizabeth is definitely the artist you should contact if you have an idea you want on canvas.

* * *

One of the most beautiful pieces in Elizabeth's portfolio is the oil on canvas piece "Magnolia Blossom" (right).  The color and detail in this painting reveals the artist's ability to capture the delicacy of nature down to smallest detail.

Elizabeth offers this painting in a signed, limited edition print on velvet watercolor paper.

The colors come alive -- even on the print.  The whites are brilliant, the greens are deep and natural and the middle of the bloom is so well defined that you almost believe you could reach in and touch it.

If you've ever considered buying a limited edition print, this one is a "must have" for your collection.

* * *

If you love bold, intense color, you will enjoy Elizabeth Duncklee's "Bouquet of Calla Lilies."

The deep red background is a wonderful contrast to the white blooms and green foliage that cascade down the canvas.

We also love the way the light plays on each of the lilies and how they appear to be cuddled into the tall green leaves -- a lovely portrait of nature.

And the size of this painting is not shy either -- it measures a big 48" tall by 28" wide -- large enough to make a bold impact on any wall.

 * * *

Nothing beats the serenity of a cool running stream and this painting is certainly no exception.

Here Elizabeth presents the wonders of nature in a "Forest Stream."

Color, light, shadow, movement -- all are combined and draw you into this forest scene.  From the fallen leaves to the moss-covered rocks in the water path, all of the elements are detailed with a realism that is stylistically Elizabeth.  It is enchanting from top to bottom.

* * *

Beauty comes in many colors -- and so do these calla lilies.

Each blossom is a masterpiece in its own right -- but the combination absolutely stimulates the senses.

The piece is entitled, "Calla Lily Medley."

* * *

The last presentation from Elizabeth's gallery is "Snake River."  Painted from a picture taken while visiting the Grand Tetons, this treasure embodies the strength of an eagle as it soars above the river on a backdrop of snow-covered mountains.

Hopefully, Elizabeth will offer this painting as one of her limited print collections -- because it would be the only way you could enjoy it in your own home -- we bought the original!

* * *

I hope you enjoyed the artwork of emerging artist Elizabeth Duncklee -- she is a talented painter who puts her heart and soul into every piece she creates.  Without a doubt, her detailed and delightful style would light up any room.

Next -- natural, woodsy and very different, bettula brings us

a Birch Bracelet Cuff

Made from white birch bark, the art of this piece is the natural raised markings on one side of the bracelet and the pretty, yet subtle pastel colors mixed throughout the cuff.

This unusual wooden beauty can be worn with natural brown tones, whites or off-whites or simple pastel cottons to reinforce that natural vibe. Each handmade piece is one of a kind and is sure to be a real conversation starter. How can you resist? And we wouldn't hesitate to visit the artisan to see more wonderful cuffs in different wood hues.

duality designs

I'm really excited about this next one, Monicaj created a freeform crocheted cuff

called Beyond Obsession

During a trip to the Quartz Mountain Wild Flower Festival, the artisan found a box of vintage lace and it inspired her to create this one of kind charmer.

Rows and rows of seven different types of old lace are cut and knotted to make this super fluffy cuff. What texture -- it captures your attention with love at first site. The addition of three vintage buttons complete the piece. Another sure conversation starter at nearly 2 inches wide and approximately 7 1/4 inches long; the cuff is cozy and comfortable with a little bit of stretch to it.

Snatch it up for yourself at only

$59 from Monicaj

Soft, ultra feminine and absolutely delicious willowbunny

goes warm and fuzzy with felt and a big iridescent lilac and silver glass button -- creating contrast in texture for this perfect little cuff.

The gray heathered wool is "wet felted" with a ruffled edge. It wraps around the wrist almost twice to enhance the effect --measuring 3 inches at the widest part ...

Snag the

Big Button Cuff for only $29 from

willowbunny

Last, but not least, this little cutie comes from Dillavou Designs

captioned Totally Butterriffic

Stunning little Czech glass beads of butterflies, flowers and leaves are lovingly woven through a raw copper wire cuff ... a smaller, light and airy little piece of art that will compliment more of those beautiful spring pastels in your wardrobe.

Catch it at only $20 from Dillavou Designs

And that winds down "Obsessed with Cuffs ... Part II."

But it's not the end of the series -- check our site again for another addition to this collection of cuffs next week.

Emerging Artist: Anthony Swartwood

By leathergallery · July 12, 2009 · 2 Comments · 533 Views

As promised, we are bringing our readers a collection of emerging artists in all types of styles and mediums. Today we explore the artwork of Anthony Swartwood.

Anthony Swartwood grew up in the Greater Binghamton area of upstate New York. He studied at the Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute in Utica, New York and also earned a degree in Fine Art/Computer Graphics from Broome Community College. Today Tony calls the Tampa Bay area of Florida his home. After working successfully as a Commercial Artist in Tampa for many years, he is now devoting his full energy to developing his talents in the Tampa Bay area.

* * *

Displaying his works in various Tampa area art shows and venues, Tony recently won first place at a Tampa Bay Realistic Artists’ show that featured his cityscape, “Deep Downtown” (right). This interesting piece illustrates the downtown Tampa hard scape in towering stature against a visitor below. The blue-grey tones, reflections and shadows capture the mood of a desolate city street and suggests that the rains have just deluged the horizontal surfaces and left a hint of water and mist in the air.

Almost haunting in presentation, Tony reminds us of how lonely the city streets can be when they are void of greenery and relegated to only concrete and brick.

* * *

Using a different color palette, the work entitled "Sunset" (right) invokes a subtle golden glow of the sun reflecting on an open body of water.

Simple and pure, this piece invites you to quietly enjoy the stillness of the water as it laps over the rocks in the foreground.

 * * *

The next presentation from Anthony Swartwood's gallery is the majestic and snow capped "Alaska Mountain."

The subtle blue and violet tones in the Alaskan sky are a perfect backdrop for the mountain peaks that jut above the green tree line. With a mist placed at the lower valley regions, the artist has created a wonder of nature painted on a canvas.

* * *

If you've ever fished in the early morning light, this painting will take you back to that place in time. The peaceful, still waters are only disturbed by the ripples of the fly fisherman's casts. He stands waist deep the reflections of the surrounding trees with the sun emerging in a soft yellow tone.

The piece is entitled "Feather Lake Colorado."

* * *

We hope you enjoyed the artwork presented in this post. Mr. Swartwood’s use of light and shadow brings a style of realism that draws the viewer in every time. Whether a towering mountain, hard cityscape or a placid lake scene – each piece holds the beauty of perfectly selected color combinations as well as impeccable composition. And if you are lucky enough to live in the Tampa Bay area, you will be able to view these and other pieces of Anthony Swartwood’s artwork at his first SOLO exhibition at Studio 56 located at 2032 Ashley Oaks Circle in Wesley Chapel, Florida on July 25th 2009 from 5 PM until 9 PM.

Emerging Artist ... Elena Bissinger

By leathergallery · January 24, 2010 · 0 Comments · 131 Views

Once in while you run across an artist that has a style that captures your attention and you keep going back to look at the work they've done -- Elena Bissinger is such an artist.

Born in Beius, Romania, Elena Bissinger completed her artistic studies at Art School 'Francisc Hubin' and graduated from Visual Arts University in Oradea.  She has paintings in private collections all over the world and is a member of the Association of Fine Arts Artists in Oradea.

Elena's casual style brings life to every piece she creates.  Color, texture and scale all combine to create a visual delight.  Here are just a few of our favorite pieces from her collection:

 Mandolina

Suspended on canvas, this whimsical instrument is both warm and bold in presentation -- the colors just seem to belong together.  This abstract is a magical composition of brown and tan tones -- complimented with warm red and black outlining.

A terrific work of art from Elena Bissinger.

 Prin padurea de mesteceni

Somewhere between nature and abstract, the towering birch trees in this painting call your eyes toward the sky above.  The perspective is fun and the colors are clean, crisp and well chosen.  Congratulations go to Elena on a piece well done.

Demi Rose & Aura De Vara

From her floral collection, these two oil paintings reveal the Elena's skill in texture and depth.  Both fill the canvas with an explosion of full-bodied blooms -- a romantic compliment to any space.

We hope you enjoyed the artwork of Elena Bissinger as much as we have.  To see more of Elena's work, you can visit her gallery at FineArtAmerica.com-- where she has over 100 pieces for you to explore.  Each piece is available for purchase in fine giclee print format on luxury paper or gallery wrapped canvas.

Well, it's vacation time and most of us are trying to figure out how to find the best value in a place to mix fun with relaxation.  Here's something to consider ... after you figure out what you want to see, you have to figure out where you're going to stay.  A hotel or motel can give you a place to sleep and shower -- but, there are better options.

If you've never rented a privately-owned vacation cabin or villa, you're in for a treat.  These great little get-aways are so much more than a parking spot and a room -- they offer warmth, charm and a comfortable place to retire after a long day of sight-seeing -- and they come in all shapes and sizes!  From New York to Hawaii ... the beach to the mountains ... just pick your destination and search for your little slice of heaven.

Here are a couple of online sites that offer pictures, prices and descriptions of thousands of privately-owned vacation properties ... all you have to do is "click" and you'll be vacationing in style!

Visit ...

Homeway.com  ...  one of the world's leading vacation rental marketplaces with over 176,000 places to relax, laugh, play and enjoy with friends and family.  This site even offers a $5,000 vacation rental guarantee ... definitely worth a look!

or visit an affiliated site for even more options ...

VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owner) ...millions of travelers visit this site each month, with over 120,000 vacation rentals to choose from!

Not sure where to start ... here's just one example ... an "Adorable Cabin in the Woods" ... located just outside of Helen, Georgia -- a beautiful mountain retreat for your Summer vacation ... (click to see the actual listing) ...

This adorable cabin sits on over one acre of wooded seclusion – just minutes from downtown Helen, the Unicoi State Park, Anna Ruby Falls and the Old Sautee General Store. Drive up the private road to the perfect mountain get-a-way, then relax in the rocking chairs on the large deck with your morning coffee and enjoy the sights and sounds of the wilderness – rabbits, squirrels, deer and more... many creatures visit the grounds of this cabin in the woods. You can kick back and never leave the woods (watching the 32 inch flat screen TV right above the fireplace with satellite TV and three movie channels) – or you can enjoy the many local attractions, parks or shopping facilities within minutes of the cabin.

Every guest in this cozy little cabin is provided a portfolio of activities in the area. A short drive to fishing, hiking, tubing the Chattahoochee River, horseback riding, Oktoberfest, shopping, and more! Once you discover this little gem in the woods, you’ll want to come back and visit every year!
This is just one example of the wonderful places you can find ... see -- isn't that better than a plain old room and a parking spot?
So browse the listings, read the reviews written by people who have actually stayed at the property and try something different.  But most of all, enjoy whatever little oasis you pick to vacation in comfort!

Fine Art America ... Guitar Love Contest

Email |
|
By leathergallery · December 19, 2009 · 0 Comments · 3,409 Views

If you visited FineArtAmerica.com in November, you may have seen the "Guitar Love" contest.  With 46 artist entries, each contestant submitted their most treasured guitar masterpieces.

The three winners featured today gave us their best.  Well deserved congratulations go to ...

1st Place Winner -- Blues Man by Sharon Sieben

Sharon Sieben began painting five years ago and hasn't stopped since -- that's when her passion blossomed.  Before that she only had "the urge" to paint -- but it only surfaced occasionally because her time was either focused on her children or her career.  Traveling frequently for her job, Sharon visited many places and found people that she thought would be great subjects to capture on canvas and made a mental note to "do that" someday.

Someday finally came a few years back and she's been obsessed to create ever since.  Sharon loves to experiment and share her work with others -- always getting such a good feeling when somebody takes the time to admire and react to her art.

Congratulations, Sharon -- Blues Man is a wonderful piece of artwork and 1st Place was well deserved.

.

2nd Place Tie Winner -- Jazz Rock John Mayer 05 by Yuriy Shevchuk

Born in 1961 in Kiev, Ukraine, the artist Yuriy Shevchuk has been drawing for as long, as he remembers. But, at the Kiev Art School and later at Kiev Architectural Academy (Interior Design Studio 1978-1984) under professional guidance and rigorous classic training, he mastered his refined technique. Searching for something new and unusual, he developed his own style -- adopting the principles of recording his own experiences by showing a plentitude of feelings and emotions in his art. Since 1993 Yuriy Shevchuk has been living in Prague. His career as an artist is firmly connected with this city of great artistic concentration.  In Prague Yuriy exhibits widely (Rapid Gallery, R & K Gallery, Crazy Cow Gallery and more) and enjoys great success. Bewitched with jazz music, his skillful hand and sensitive brush cool the charming figures of musicians in action. Clarity, harmony, refined colors and delightful lines are features which describe Yuriy as a professional.  He attracts the interest of sophisticated art lovers and music lovers as well.

Congratulations, Yuriy Shevchuk, for your tie in 2nd Place with Jazz Rock John Mayer 05.

.

2nd Place Tie Winner -- Double Neck Guitar by Lila Mattison

 Born and raised in Pennsylvania then settling down in Corning, NY -- artist, Lila Mattison had her own camera since she was eight years old and today she's sixty-eight.

A wife, mother and grandmother of four, Lila has always loved to take pictures -- especially of her family.  In the last ten years, Lila has started taking photos of scenery, nature, wildlife and unusual things.  Also a music lover, Lila enjoyed seeing quite a few rock 'n roll and country western singers in concert -- always with camera in hand.

Obsessed with Cuffs ... Part I

Well, we guess the secret is out ... we have an obsession with cuffs! And not just ordinary cuffs -- extraordinary cuffs ... beaded cuffs, metal cuffs, fabric cuffs, leather cuffs ...

But, the real secret is that -- most of all -- we love handmade cuffs. There's nothing like the work of an indie artisan. You don't see their stuff in a department store, you don't see their stuff in the mall -- that's because their stuff isn't "stuff" -- it's ART. Unique, beautiful, colorful, wonderful -- like nothing else you've ever seen before -- ART. They take pride in their craft; they spend countless hours on their pieces -- because theirs is a labor of love. And when the final touch is applied, they give the world something to marvel over. But, the best part about it -- we get to adorn our wrists with their treasures!

This is Part I of a multi-part series dedicated to the obsure artists we have spent sleepless nights trying to find. We've selected these pieces because of their color selection, composition, texture, creativity or unique presentation. Some are simple, yet elegant ... some are involved and intricate ... but, each one commands attention in it's own unique way.

So, get ready for a treat and enjoy "Obsessed with Cuffs ... Part I" -- but, don't forget to check back for the next parts -- because we wouldn't want you to miss a thing!

Obsessed with Cuffs ... Part I

First up, TotallyTwisted brings us

The Bronze Age Peyote Cuff

We love how the red and brown colors play against each other in this cuff ... and the beadwork is truly amazing.

So when we flipped through our notebook of "keepers" -- this handbeaded cuff definitely made the grade.

Next up, AddictionToDetail presents

a Ruffled Copper Bracelet

This ruffled cuff bracelet is not a “shy” piece of jewelry. It’s ruffled edges and textured surface will get everyone's attention.

This unusual solid copper cuff bracelet curves outwards from the center to give it real flair. The face of the cuff has a slight satin finish and the back has a highly reflective surface for contrast. Handmade -- not cast -- fabricated using chasing and hammering techniques.

Quite a different look for ruffles and absolutely gorgeous!

Who says an artisan cuff has to be expensive? islandgirlartplay

gives us a different spin on this cuff with gold painted black leather frames and heavy duty hand painted cotton. A "very cool" indie design that measures 2 1/2" in width and deserves to be worn by a girl or guy with attitude! It's "LOUD" to say the least and screams FUN ...
