Emerging Artist ... Elena Bissinger

Once in while you run across an artist that has a style that captures your attention and you keep going back to look at the work they've done -- Elena Bissinger is such an artist.

Born in Beius, Romania, Elena Bissinger completed her artistic studies at Art School 'Francisc Hubin' and graduated from Visual Arts University in Oradea. She has paintings in private collections all over the world and is a member of the Association of Fine Arts Artists in Oradea.

Elena's casual style brings life to every piece she creates. Color, texture and scale all combine to create a visual delight. Here are just a few of our favorite pieces from her collection:

Emerging Artist: Elizabeth Duncklee

Continuing our "Emerging Artist" series, we explore the exquisite artwork of Elizabeth Duncklee.

Elizabeth Duncklee currently lives just outside of Atlanta, GA. She is a self-taught artist and photographer with a special talent for florals and natural landscapes. Her artwork is breath-taking with an amazing amount of detail. Each of Elizabeth's paintings tend to have an aspect of realism to them, but she's been known to add a contemporary twist or touch of surrealism. Landscapes and flowers are her most frequent subjects, however she does offer an abstract from time to time.

If you ask Elizabeth, she will tell you that her inspiration for painting started while she was living in Alaska -- there the artist thought the terrain was such a beautiful masterpiece -- not only did she photograph it, but she captured the beauty of it in oils on canvas. Elizabeth's been painting ever since and has fallen in love with the personal time she puts into each painting.

Well known for perfectly executed commission pieces, Elizabeth is definitely the artist you should contact if you have an idea you want on canvas.

One of the most beautiful pieces in Elizabeth's portfolio is the oil on canvas piece "Magnolia Blossom" (right). The color and detail in this painting reveals the artist's ability to capture the delicacy of nature down to smallest detail.

Color, light, shadow, movement -- all are combined and draw you into this forest scene. From the fallen leaves to the moss-covered rocks in the water path, all of the elements are detailed with a realism that is stylistically Elizabeth. It is enchanting from top to bottom.

The last presentation from Elizabeth's gallery is "Snake River." Painted from a picture taken while visiting the Grand Tetons, this treasure embodies the strength of an eagle as it soars above the river on a backdrop of snow-covered mountains.

Emerging Artist: Anthony Swartwood

As promised, we are bringing our readers a collection of emerging artists in all types of styles and mediums. Today we explore the artwork of Anthony Swartwood.

Anthony Swartwood grew up in the Greater Binghamton area of upstate New York. He studied at the Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute in Utica, New York and also earned a degree in Fine Art/Computer Graphics from Broome Community College. Today Tony calls the Tampa Bay area of Florida his home. After working successfully as a Commercial Artist in Tampa for many years, he is now devoting his full energy to developing his talents in the Tampa Bay area.

Displaying his works in various Tampa area art shows and venues, Tony recently won first place at a Tampa Bay Realistic Artists’ show that featured his cityscape, “Deep Downtown” (right). This interesting piece illustrates the downtown Tampa hard scape in towering stature against a visitor below. The blue-grey tones, reflections and shadows capture the mood of a desolate city street and suggests that the rains have just deluged the horizontal surfaces and left a hint of water and mist in the air.

Almost haunting in presentation, Tony reminds us of how lonely the city streets can be when they are void of greenery and relegated to only concrete and brick.

Using a different color palette, the work entitled "Sunset" (right) invokes a subtle golden glow of the sun reflecting on an open body of water.

Simple and pure, this piece invites you to quietly enjoy the stillness of the water as it laps over the rocks in the foreground.

The next presentation from Anthony Swartwood's gallery is the majestic and snow capped "Alaska Mountain."

The subtle blue and violet tones in the Alaskan sky are a perfect backdrop for the mountain peaks that jut above the green tree line. With a mist placed at the lower valley regions, the artist has created a wonder of nature painted on a canvas.

If you've ever fished in the early morning light, this painting will take you back to that place in time. The peaceful, still waters are only disturbed by the ripples of the fly fisherman's casts. He stands waist deep the reflections of the surrounding trees with the sun emerging in a soft yellow tone.

The piece is entitled "Feather Lake Colorado."

1st Place Winner -- Blues Man by Sharon Sieben

Sharon Sieben began painting five years ago and hasn't stopped since -- that's when her passion blossomed. Before that she only had "the urge" to paint -- but it only surfaced occasionally because her time was either focused on her children or her career. Traveling frequently for her job, Sharon visited many places and found people that she thought would be great subjects to capture on canvas and made a mental note to "do that" someday.

Someday finally came a few years back and she's been obsessed to create ever since. Sharon loves to experiment and share her work with others -- always getting such a good feeling when somebody takes the time to admire and react to her art.

2nd Place Tie Winner -- Jazz Rock John Mayer 05 by Yuriy Shevchuk

Born in 1961 in Kiev, Ukraine, the artist Yuriy Shevchuk has been drawing for as long, as he remembers. But, at the Kiev Art School and later at Kiev Architectural Academy (Interior Design Studio 1978-1984) under professional guidance and rigorous classic training, he mastered his refined technique. Searching for something new and unusual, he developed his own style -- adopting the principles of recording his own experiences by showing a plentitude of feelings and emotions in his art. Since 1993 Yuriy Shevchuk has been living in Prague. His career as an artist is firmly connected with this city of great artistic concentration. In Prague Yuriy exhibits widely (Rapid Gallery, R & K Gallery, Crazy Cow Gallery and more) and enjoys great success. Bewitched with jazz music, his skillful hand and sensitive brush cool the charming figures of musicians in action. Clarity, harmony, refined colors and delightful lines are features which describe Yuriy as a professional. He attracts the interest of sophisticated art lovers and music lovers as well.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania then settling down in Corning, NY -- artist, Lila Mattison had her own camera since she was eight years old and today she's sixty-eight.

A wife, mother and grandmother of four, Lila has always loved to take pictures -- especially of her family. In the last ten years, Lila has started taking photos of scenery, nature, wildlife and unusual things. Also a music lover, Lila enjoyed seeing quite a few rock 'n roll and country western singers in concert -- always with camera in hand.

Well, we guess the secret is out ... we have an obsession with cuffs! And not just ordinary cuffs -- extraordinary cuffs ... beaded cuffs, metal cuffs, fabric cuffs, leather cuffs ...

But, the real secret is that -- most of all -- we love handmade cuffs. There's nothing like the work of an indie artisan. You don't see their stuff in a department store, you don't see their stuff in the mall -- that's because their stuff isn't "stuff" -- it's ART. Unique, beautiful, colorful, wonderful -- like nothing else you've ever seen before -- ART. They take pride in their craft; they spend countless hours on their pieces -- because theirs is a labor of love. And when the final touch is applied, they give the world something to marvel over. But, the best part about it -- we get to adorn our wrists with their treasures!

This is Part I of a multi-part series dedicated to the obsure artists we have spent sleepless nights trying to find. We've selected these pieces because of their color selection, composition, texture, creativity or unique presentation.
